Warts are a very common type of skin lesion that are the result of certain strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV).
So, what do warts look like? Warts are small and rough lumps that appear on the skin. They can form on most areas of the body but are more common on the hands, fingers and feet. They are typically harmless, but they can cause irritation or discomfort.
A verruca is a type of wart that appears on the soles of the feet. They are white in appearance with a black dot in the middle. Whereas warts are raised off the skin, a verruca tends to be flat.
Warts and verrucas can spread from one person to another through close skin contact or by touching contaminated surfaces. They do not appear straight away. In fact, it can take months for a wart or verruca to show up.
You will find that a lot of warts and verrucas will disappear on their own, however, this can take months or sometimes years.
In the early stages, your doctor may prescribe you a salicylic acid cream or spray to help get rid of them. However, more stubborn warts will require more treatment.
There are a couple of options when it comes to wart removal treatments and verruca treatment such as surgical excision. However, the fastest, least painful and most effective form of removal is by freezing them. This is known as cryosurgery or cryotherapy.
Cryosurgery is also a great option for skin tag removal treatment. Unlike warts, skin tags are small, harmless growths that are flesh-coloured and hang off the surface of the skin. they tend to grow where the skin rubs against each other such as the armpits, groin and under the breasts.
You should never try to remove a wart, verruca or skin tag by yourself. Always speak to a doctor or skin care specialist about any skin lesion that is causing you concern.
At Zapp Laser Studio in Bristol, we offer wart removal using our CryoPen treatment. This works by freezing the wart, verruca or skin tag to completely remove and reveal the healthy skin underneath.
Your first step to wart removal is to meet with one of our specialists are our Bristol studio. This is where we will get to assess your warts or verrucas, look at your medical history and get to know more about you.
We will also walk you through cryotherapy to show you how it works and what type of results you can expect. If we feel that this is not the right treatment for you, we will discuss other treatment options that you might want to pursue.
This wart removal procedure uses an applicator that directly targets your warts and verrucas without harming or damaging healthy skin tissue. It uses highly pressurised liquid nitrous oxide which produces a very cold temperature on your skin. This helps to destroy your warts and verrucas completely.
You can expect your treatment to take anywhere from a couple of minutes up to 30 minutes. This will depend on the size, quantity and how stubborn your warts and verrucas are. You will typically only need one treatment to destroy your unwanted skin lesions.
Because cryosurgery is a minimally invasive treatment, you can go back to work and do your normal activities straight away. Your practitioner will talk to you about how to keep the treatment area clean and protected while it heals.
During the freezing process, your skin in the treatment area will turn white. As this starts to thaw, you may see some redness and swelling for up to 48 hours. If you have quite a large wart that needs longer treatment, you might develop a blister, which can take a few days to heal.
As you heal, you may develop a crust over the affected area. This is normal and should fall over a two week period. Your skin may also turn lighter after treatment, which will last for a few weeks. After this, your skin will return to its normal colour.
You will not need a topical numbing cream or local anaesthetic applied to the treatment area. This is because CryoPen treatment is fairly fast and comfortable. You may experience a slight stinging sensation when the nitrous oxide hits your skin. It only lasts for a few seconds and feels similar to holding an ice cube on your skin.
