Pigmentation Treatment Brighton

What causes skin pigmentation issues?

The colour of your skin comes down to how much melanin (the pigment that gives skin its colour) your skin cells produce.

When your body produces too much melanin, this can lead to darker patches or spots forming on the skin. This can be the result of:

  •       Excessive sun exposure
  •       Inflammation in the body
  •       Hormonal changes
  •       Genetics
  •       Medications
  •       Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) after burns, acne or cuts
  •       Ageing

The most common examples of dark spots that we can treat are sun spots, liver spots, freckles, melasma, or a general uneven skin tone.

Our advanced treatment options for pigmentation issues

At Zapp Laser Studio in Brighton, we offer a number of different treatments that are designed to target the excess melanin and break down the pigmented skin cells.

We do not provide a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment.

This is why we give every client an in-depth consultation so that we can assess your pigmented skin and look at your medical history.

We will also do a patch test to find out which is the most suitable treatment for your skin type and concern.

From this, we will develop a bespoke treatment plan that will include one or more of the following pigmentation treatments:

PicoSure Focus laser treatment

This laser treatment uses Focus Lens Array technology to send ultra-short pulses of laser light energy into the dermal layer of the skin.

This works by shattering the pigmented cells and encourages your skin to produce collagen and elastin.

It does this by using PressureWave technology and not heat, so that there is no damage to the healthy surrounding skin.

What skin conditions does it treat?

PicoSure Focus is an ideal laser treatment to help reduce:

  •       Sun damaged skin
  •       Sun spots
  •       Melasma
  •       Acne scars
  •       Stretch marks
  •       Fine lines

How many sessions before you see results?

You will start to see visible improvements in your skin tone and skin texture within 1-3 treatment sessions.

The recovery time from each treatment is minimal. The skin in the treated area may appear slightly red and swollen. This is normal and will go down within a day or two.

Depending on how severe your pigmentation issues are, you should see clearer and brighter skin after three sessions.

PicoSure Zoom laser treatment

Unlike traditional intense pulsed light (IPL) laser treatments, PicoSure Zoom offers much deeper penetration into the skin.

This targets pigmented lesions that are more deeply rooted such as sun damaged skin.

It also comes with less risk than IPL treatment because it uses light energy and not heat energy to break down pigmentation.

Similar to the Focus handpiece, it sends ultra-short bursts of light energy directly into the pigmented cells.

What skin conditions does it treat?

The Zoom handpiece can treat:

  •       Age spots
  •       Sun spots
  •       Melasma
  •       Enlarged pores
  •       Acne scars
  •       Fine lines

How many sessions before you see results?

For mild to moderate skin pigmentation issues, a single treatment can be enough to restore a more balanced skin tone.

However, if you have more severe sun damaged skin, you may need a course of 2-3 treatments to see the best results.

The downtime with this laser treatment is minimal.

You may see some mild redness and skin sensitivity, which will go down within a few hours or a day.

SkinPen Microneedling

SkinPen microneedling uses a pen-like device that has tiny needles that penetrate the skin.

This action causes micro-injuries to the skin, which triggers your wound healing response.

As part of your body’s healing process, new skin cells, collagen and elastin are produced.

This helps to smooth out your skin texture and brighten your skin tone.

What skin conditions does it treat?

SkinPen microneedling is an ideal treatment for:

  •       Uneven skin tone
  •       Stretch marks
  •       Acne scars
  •       Hyperpigmentation
  •       Large pores
  •       Rosacea
  •       Mild skin discolouration

How many sessions before you see results?

You will need a course of 3-6 microneedling treatments to see an improvement in your skin tone and skin texture.

Your skin may appear red and slightly swollen from where the tiny needles have entered the skin, but this will go down in 24-48 hours.

Your skin will continue to improve after your sessions, as new collagen builds in the skin.

Medik8 Chemical Peels

We may recommend our Medik8 chemical peels as part of a treatment plan that sits alongside laser therapy.

Chemical peels work by applying a chemical solution to the skin to help exfoliate and remove dead skin cells.

They can also help accelerate skin cell turnover and improve the tone of your skin.

They come in different strengths, which we can tailor to your skin type and specific skin needs.

What skin conditions does it treat?

Chemical peels can help to treat:

  •       Age spots
  •       Mild to moderate sun damage
  •       Hyperpigmentation
  •       Acne and acne scars
  •       Fine lines and wrinkles

How many sessions before you see results?

You will need a course of treatments to see optimal results.

If you are having them as part of a combination treatment with laser light therapy, you will need to wait at least two weeks after each laser session to have a peel.

You can experience some mild redness, sensitivity and light peeling, which will stop in a few days.

We will provide you with aftercare instructions to help you protect your skin and allow it to heal fully.
