Unwanted hair growth or excessive hair growth is a common concern. Hair growth is controlled by underlying factors triggered in puberty to medical conditions such as hormone disorders (PCOS) and side effects from medication and medical treatments. Traditional hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing and tweezing can time consuming and expensive. What to expect

The area to be treated must be tan free including free of tanning products.
The area needs to be shaven 24 hours before the treatment.
The treatment area will be cleaned.
The practitioner will use the Skintel melanin reader in the area to be treated and adjust the settings according to your specific skin type and colour/density of hair.
The practitioner will then guide the Elite iQ handpiece and cooling device over the treatment area.
The handpiece will emit beams of laser energy which are absorbed by the hair follicles and converted to heat.
Most people say it’s mildly uncomfortable and feels like a rubber band flicking against the skin.
The heat stops the hair follicle from growing again.
A course of 6-8 treatments are normally required 6-8 weeks apart.

Causes of unwanted hair growth

Hirsutism

Hirsutism is when women have thick, dark hair on their face, neck, chest, tummy, lower back, buttocks or thighs. This extra hair growth often arises from excess male hormones (androgens), primarily testosterone.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

PCOS is a fairly common condition which affects the way a woman’s ovaries work.

Three features of PCOS are:

Polycystic ovaries – Ovaries become enlarged and contain follicles, fluid filled sacs which surround the eggs.
Irregular periods – Eggs are not released regularly from the ovaries.
Unwanted hair growth – High levels of Androgen (Male hormones) in the body.
