What is PicoWay laser tattoo removal?

Not all laser treatments are created equal when it comes to effective tattoo removal. This is because not all lasers work on all skin types, and not all lasers can remove every colour of tattoo ink on the spectrum. This is where PicoWay laser tattoo removal treatment shines as the gold standard.

The PicoWay laser does not rely on heat to remove tattoo ink like traditional laser treatments do. Instead, PicoWay uses picosecond technology. What is this? This technology uses ultra-short bursts of laser light energy at high speeds to break down tattoo ink into smaller particles. As a result, this makes it much easier for your body to process and remove them.

Not only does PicoWay get rid of tattoo ink in fewer treatments, but it also works on all skin types. This is because it uses a 1064 wavelength, which ignores the melanin in the skin, even in darker skin types, and instead focuses on the ink.

PicoWay laser tattoo removal methods also remove ink colours that are typically challenging to remove. This includes greens, blues, reds and yellow. The heat energy specifically targets the ink pigment without causing any damage to the healthy skin cells that surround it.

Key benefits of PicoWay laser tattoo removal

You might be tempted by other tattoo removal methods, such as tattoo removal creams, which might appear to be less expensive.

But while they might be a cheaper alternative to laser tattoo removal, they do not provide great results, and in fact, they can actually be dangerous for your skin and increase the risk of scarring.

So, if you want to see effective tattoo removal in fewer treatments, here’s why you should choose PicoWay treatments:

  •       Works well on all skin types, including darker skin types, to remove ink particles without causing pigmentation issues
  •       Treats green and blue ink with 730nm and 785nm handpiece.
  •       Removes red, orange and yellow ink, which other lasers do not. This is because PicoWay laser treatments use a more effective 532nm wavelength.
  •       Safe and effective – it targets ink to shatter it into tiny particles without damaging the surrounding skin
  •       Works to break down both simple tattoo designs and more complex tattoos
  •       You will need fewer treatments, which makes it a more affordable option than other laser treatments

How does the PicoWay laser work?

To help you understand what happens during PicoWay laser treatments, here is a breakdown of what we do in every session:

Consultation

You will meet with one of our laser experts, who will assess your tattoo and skin condition. From looking at its size and location and your skin type, they will develop a bespoke treatment plan that will include how many sessions you will need to fully remove or fade your tattoo.

PicoWay Laser tattoo removal treatment

Before we start your treatment, we will cleanse the skin in the treatment area and give you protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser.

We do not apply a numbing cream before your treatment as this can change the texture of your skin and actually slow down the treatment process. Instead, we use a cryo machine throughout your treatment. This will blow extremely cold air onto the skin to help reduce discomfort and protect the skin.

During your treatment, the PicoWay laser will fire ultra-short bursts of laser energy directly into the tattoo. We will use different wavelengths depending on the colours in your tattoo. The laser will shatter the ink into tiny particles, which will then allow your body to flush them out through your body’s immune system over the following weeks.

On average, each session lasts around 10-20 minutes. This will depend on factors such as the size, location and age of the tattoo.

Post-treatment care for your skin

After your laser tattoo removal treatment, it is normal for the skin over the tattoo to look red or swollen. It may even blister in certain areas. To help your skin recover and heal properly, your laser expert will provide you with a set of aftercare instructions.

For the first 48 hours, you can apply a cold compress or ice pack to reduce any redness and swelling. After this, you can apply vitamin E or aloe vera gel to soothe any itching and calm the skin.

You will also need to cover your tattoo and shield it from the sun, or at the very least, wear a factor 50 sunscreen to protect your skin.

Your skin will need time to recover from each session of laser treatment. This is why we ask you to wait at least 10 weeks between treatments. This also gives your body time to process the shattered ink particles.
