How Much Is Laser Tattoo Removal?
Do you find yourself looking at an old tattoo and regretting the decision to get it? Maybe you have unwanted tattoos that you want to fade and cover up with a new design. If this is you, the chances are you are asking yourself – how much is laser tattoo removal?
The cost of laser tattoo removal can vary. This is because it involves multiple sessions to either fade or fully remove a tattoo with laser treatments. Other tattoo removal methods such as creams may appear cheaper. However, they do not really work and can cause permanent damage to your skin.
If you want tattoo removal that actually works, laser tattoo removal is your best option. At Zapp Laser Studio, our team of experts use the PicoSure laser tattoo removal device. Not only is it the most advanced laser technology on the market, but it is also the safest.

How does laser tattoo removal work?
Finding the right laser tattoo removal device is half the battle for effective removal. This is why we use the PicoSure device. It works by firing very short, but high-intensity pulses of laser energy into the skin. This ensures that we directly target the tattoo ink without affecting the surrounding skin.
The device also helps us to treat tattoos that are notoriously hard to fade or remove. A good example is treating white tattoo ink, which is the hardest tattoo colour to remove. With white, green or blue ink, you will need more treatment sessions to fully remove the tattoo.
Because the laser light energy targets the ink particles much harder and faster than other laser treatments, it breaks them down into smaller pieces. This makes it easier for your body to process them and remove them through the body’s immune system.
We often get asked the question, is laser tattoo removal suitable for everyone? We always advise that this laser treatment works best on skin types 1-4. If you have a darker skin type, you can run the risk of the laser removing pigment from the skin.
How many sessions of laser tattoo removal will I need?
How many treatments you will need will depend on whether you are trying to fade a tattoo or remove an unwanted tattoo completely.
Larger tattoos will require more treatment sessions than smaller tattoos. Equally, tattoos that have a more intricate design are also harder to treat and will require more laser treatments.
Your laser technician will discuss with you how many laser tattoo removal treatments you will need to achieve the result you want. This will happen during your consultation where they can assess your tattoo and skin type.
On average, you will need at least 2-6 sessions of laser tattoo removal to fade a tattoo. To completely remove a tattoo, you will need at least 6-10 sessions. Again, this can vary depending on the size and complexity of your tattoo.
You must also give your body time to heal and to process the tattoo ink particles. This is why we space treatment sessions 10 weeks apart. For the later parts of tattoo removal, we may advise you to wait longer between sessions.
As a rule of thumb, the longer you leave between tattoo removal sessions, the more fading you will see.
How much does laser tattoo removal cost?
The most important thing to remember about the cost of laser tattoo removal is that it is based on the number of treatment sessions you will need.
In the first few treatment sessions, we increase the depth of the laser to target the ink deeper in the skin. When we get to the later stages, we will decrease the depth of the laser, but increase the energy. This breaks down the ink particles on the surface of the skin.
When we meet you at your consultation, your practitioner will develop a tailored treatment plan that will address your needs. No two tattoos are the same, so we always ensure we follow a personalised approach to laser tattoo removal.
For guidance, our laser treatment sessions start from £90. The good news is that we also offer our patients several different payment plans that can help save them money, and in some instances spread the cost of the treatment. check out our pricing page for more details.
What factors can affect the cost of laser tattoo removal?
As we have mentioned previously, the colour and size of your tattoo can play a big factor in how many laser removal sessions you will need and how much your treatment will cost. Outside of this, there are several other reasons why laser tattoo removal may take longer.
- Tattoo location – the further from the heart, the more sessions you will need.
- Professional tattoos – can take longer to remove than amateur tattoos
- How old your tattoo is – older tattoos fade more easily than new tattoos
- How much ink is in your skin – if your ink is deeper and denser, you will need more sessions
- How healthy you are – your immune system needs to work effectively to process the ink
